Vineyards of Alsace

May 05-14, 2025

10 days | France | alumni UBC Travel Club

This tour is presented by the alumni associations of the University of British Columbia and the University of Guelph. All are welcome!

Welcome to a journey through the picturesque vineyards of Alsace with a dip into Germany’s Black Forest. Here centuries of winemaking tradition meet stunning landscapes and a distinctive history.

Riesling, gewurztraminer, muscat, pinot gris, and pinot noir grapes are found here creating dry but aromatic white wines, lighter red wines, and notable vendage tardive and sparkling wines. The influence of the winemaker’s personal style is particularly strong in Alsace; we’ll enjoy meeting the winemakers and learning as we taste.

We begin in Strasbourg, perfectly balanced between France and Germany, between its medieval past and its progressive future as the capital of Europe. The rest of our stay is in Colmar, one of the loveliest cities in Alsace with picturesque half-timbered houses, romantic canals, flower-laden windowsills, a labyrinth of cobblestone lanes, and, naturally, delicious food and wine.

Whether you’re a seasoned oenophile or a curious novice, Howard Soon and our expert guides will lead you on a sensory journey unveiling the secrets behind Alsace’s renowned varietals and guiding you through exclusive tastings at prestigious wineries as you explore this gem of a wine region.
