Tropical Birding & Wildlife at Pico Bonito Lodge

A land of mountains and forests, beaches and coral reefs, mangroves and wilderness, Honduras is a dream destination for nature lovers. If you’re just getting into birding–having perhaps enjoyed birds in your own backyard–or you simply love to see interesting and beautiful birds, this destination should be on your list. Over 700 bird species have been recorded here! This tour for alumni UBC travellers will be a wonderful opportunity to combine your budding interest with a fantastic winter getaway!

We’ll be staying for the entire time at the luxurious Lodge at Pico Bonito. Situated inside Pico Bonito National Park and a short distance from the country’s Caribbean Coast, our accommodations are set in 400 acres of tropical wilderness and allow for easygoing discovery as well as serving as a fantastic base for nearby explorations. The Lodge itself has three multi-story canopy observation towers for maximum viewing and photography opportunities and an extensive privately-maintained trail system.

"This was my first time to Central America and this was the perfect initiation. I experienced the varieties of habitat, wildlife and snorkeling." - 2019 Pico Bonito traveller

A remarkable variety of wildlife is found here in this laid-back region where we’ll visit a number of national parks, wildlife refuges and biological reserves, affording us a chance to appreciate the work that Hondurans have made to protect their natural spaces and to gain insights into their bird life and more. Both beginner and more experienced bird watchers will enjoy this learning experience.
