Patagonia & Chilean Fjords Expedition

Mar 30 - Apr 08, 2025

10 days | Chile | Expedition Cruise

Aboard the 96-passenger M/V Magellan Explorer!

The Pacific Coast of Chile harbours survivors of times past. The ancient and vast Patagonian ice sheet that straddles the Andes is the third largest ice mass on the planet, flowing out and down through the fjords of Chile toward the Pacific. Relict boreal forests here tell a story of an evolving planet and the super-continent of Gondwanaland. On this all-new voyage of discovery, you can explore the dramatic landscapes with their deep fjords, glaciers, peaks, and ecosystems that have survived here for millennia, collectively making up one of Earth’s great remaining wilderness regions.

Commencing in Ushuaia, Argentina, we sail north through a vast network of deep fjords and channels, we gradually navigate toward Puerto Montt via Chile’s “inner passages.” We explore the magnificent scenery throughout the expedition by Zodiac, approaching huge glaciers and observing resident and migratory wildlife, such as various seabirds — including penguins — and whales, plus sea lions, and enormous Andean Condors.

On shore, we enjoy walks to outstanding viewpoints in the company of expert guides. Additionally, visits to small coastal communities showcase the unique way of life of the hardy local inhabitants — telling a story of the Kawéskar people, European settlers, and their descendants. It’s hard to think of a more remote, pristine location, and we get to discover it all in the comfort of one of the world’s most capable expedition vessels, the custom-built M/V Magellan Explorer, to which our past Antarctica travellers have given their hearty endorsement!

Please note: Quest’s tour leader and 16 travellers will be part of the group onboard, as this is not an exclusive Quest Nature Tours voyage.
