Japan Springtime Discover Cruise

Apr 25 - May 11, 2021

17 days | Japan | alumni UBC Travel Club

With exclusive shore excursions just for our group!

A fantastic way to experience Japan’s treasures in the company of a most congenial group and study leader Julian Dierkes. Circumnavigate Japan’s main island in boutique style and comfort on board the 686-passenger Azamara Pursuit with exclusive shore excursions just for our group!

We’ve included six special shore excursions exclusive to our group plus a day of activities in Tokyo. We’ll have our own transportation and guides, accompanied by study leader Julian Dierkes. Lunches on excursion days introduce local cuisine. On other days, choose an Azamara public excursion or take the complimentary shuttle to and from port communities. Long port days make the most of your visits. On days at sea, Julian will offer special presentations to enhance your learning.

Arrive early to Tokyo to experience the city’s April cherry blossom festivals in full bloom. We’ve included a day to explore the city; ask us about our pre-cruise stay in Tokyo if you’d like to stay a little longer. Our first day on board is a luxurious sailing day aboard your boutique hotel followed by a late stay in Aomori and Akita for lots of time to explore Japan’s main island, Honshu. In Aomori, year-round festival floats fill the waters near the Nebuta Warasse museum. Hirosaki Castle, constructed in 1611 and surrounded by over 2,600 cherry trees, is another must-see before sailing to Akita, home to the famous Lake Tazawa hot springs and the wooden samurai mansions of historic Kakunodate town. After Kanazawa and Sakaiminato, cross the Korea Strait to Busan, where ancient culture and modern life merge in South Korea’s second-largest city. Buddhist temples are in abundance, as is incredibly fresh seafood. Following Kitakyushu and Hiroshima, and a luxurious day cruising the inland Sea of Japan, enjoy a full day in Kyoto to see ancient Japan at its fines. In Shimizu, gaze in awe at Mount Fuji, Japan’s tallest peak, overlooking this beautiful town, then conclude your intensive Japanese voyage with a night in Tokyo.

We’re on board the Azamara Pursuit, launched in 2018. With seven restaurants, cafés and lounges, a refreshing pool, sun-drenched decks, and a revitalizing spa, there are many areas to explore on board without every feeling crowded. An informal atmosphere on board is casual and welcoming. And with this right-size ship, enjoy the big advantage of being able to dock close in to each destination. Inclusive amenities include select standard spirits, international beers and wines, bottled water, soft drinks, speciality coffees and teas, self-service laundry and all gratuities!
