The great Italian architect Andrea Palladio had a massive influence on architecture worldwide.
 
The one-time stonecutter worked in the relatively contained landscape between Vicenza and Venice. Every building he designed was a gem, designed with perfect proportions and crystal-clear design, bringing the best of classical ancient Roman architecture to contemporary use that even today appears timeless.

Join art historian Justin Newell as we follow in Palladio’s footsteps, visiting some of his grandest villas and palaces in delightful towns and charming villages with detours to Verona and to the scenic Prosecco hills to sample fine wines and cheeses. A private cruise along the Brenta Canal takes us three of Palladio’s villas. A full day in Venice introduces the outstanding art of golden era of the 15th and 16th centuries with masterpieces by Tintoretto and Titian in the grand guild houses.

Architecture is the guide to the discovery of charming towns, authentic cuisines, and great wines, spirits, and bubbly!

Your Tour Leader

Justin Newell, art historian and artist, has lectured extensively on Western painting, sculpture, and architecture (from 1300 to 1963) at UBC and various Vancouver colleges, as well as leading art history tours to Venice, Florence, Rome, Paris, London, and other art centres of the world, weaving his knowledge of history, art, political events, and famous sights into his presentations. Justin recently taught the course: Venetian Painting: from the Renaissance to the Rococo Period for UBC Extended Learning.
