This inn is on deserted Quirpon Island. Your first challenge is to pronounce the name of the island – it’s “Kar-poon.” Previously called the “Isle of Demons”, it was thought that Quirpon was inhabited by wild animals or mythical beasts. The only massive creatures here now are the cetaceans and icebergs that glide by.
The island is ruggedly beautiful, remote, and exposed. It’s accessed by a 30-minute Zodiac ride from the mainland, then a hike to the lighthouse. Inside there’s a cozy handmade quilt on the bed in the simple wooden panelled guest room and the smell of fresh bread baking.
There’s intermittent cell service and no internet on the island. I can certainly survive a couple of days without – can you?
We have a trip planned to Newfoundland with a two-night stay on Quirpon Island in June 2022. Email me to get on the announcement list.
