We asked our staff and leaders, "What are you reading right now?"

Here's what they had to say.

If You Want to Make God Laugh

Megan MacLean, Reservations & Operations
“After finishing the Canada Reads picks for 2020, I’ve picked up If You Want to Make God Laugh by Canadian author Bianca Marais. It intertwines three stories of women living in South Africa in the mid 1990s through apartheid and the election of Nelson Mandela. All three of their stories have kept me very interested which makes it a great read to pass the time at home!”

 Scatterbrain

Ann Kirkland, Tour Leader
“On Kindle I’m reading Scatterbrain: How the Mind’s Mistakes Make Humans Creative, Innovative, and Successful by German neuroscientist Henning Beck. Fascinating and reassuring to this scattered brain.”

Love in the Time of Cholera

Samantha Clark, Marketing
"I’m halfway through a classic: Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez. I was craving fiction that would pick me up and take me to another place at a time when I can’t physically do so!"

A Rising Man by Abir Mukherjee

Laurielle Penny, Director
"Pure escapism for me right now. I’ve just discovered Robert Galbraith’s (a pseudonym for J.K. Rowling) crime fiction and next up is A Rising Man by Abir Mukherjee with the adventures of Captain Sam Wyndham, former Scotland Yard detective, working in Calcutta, immediately following WWI."

Pois não

Justin Peter, Quest Nature Tours’ Director
"My current reading is “Pois não”, which is a book for Spanish-speakers to learn Brazilian Portuguese."

The New France by Andrew Jefford

Howard Soon, Tour Leader
"I’m enjoying The New France by Andrew Jefford. English writer for Decanter but lives in Montpellier, France. He was the Keynote Speaker at the Vancouver International Wine Festival.

For our recently cancelled trip to Beaune, Burgundy and Rhone, I was studying his insightful sections on the vineyards and their terroir. Thrilled to be able to get his signature on the book. Also got him to visit our Vanessa Vineyard and taste the wines in Similkameeen!"

The Eighth Life, Moby Dick

Julia Zarankin, Tour Leader

"I'm reading Nino Harataschwili's The Eighth Life as a form of escape – to remind myself of everything I loved about Georgia. It's wonderfully engrossing – a real family saga set against the backdrop of Georgia's turbulent 20th century history. I'm also belatedly discovering Herman Melville's Moby Dick for the first time, which is a thrill. The great whale does not disappoint."

The House by the Canal , Bluebird Bluebird, Bleak House

Melanie Blake, Tour Leader and Director of Classical Pursuits
“I am indulging my love of detective fiction and all things noir. I'm reading The House by the Canal by the legendary Belgian writer Georges Simenon, and Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke. It's a thriller set in East Texas. And I am starting Bleak House by Charles Dickens. This time, I'm going to make it through!”

 Memoirs of a Geisha

Kerry Tattrie, Senior Travel Planner
"I am currently reading Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, a story of great love and loss, war, hunger, cruelty and kindness all with the backdrop of beautiful and fascinating Japan set both pre- and post- WWII."

 Thinking Fast and Slow

Rev. Wayne Walder, Mindful Journey Tour Leader

"I'm reading Thinking Fast and Slow by Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman. It’s an "easy to read" reminder of how the way we think is often irrational. He reminds me to notice the world around us, especially in travel, so we might consider developing more (fun) and thoughtful thinking skills."
