Argentina’s northwest boasts exquisite and extraordinary scenery where dramatic passes open onto lunar-like landscapes, and endless vineyards stretch out to the snowcapped mountains. As if the scenery isn’t heady enough, you find those amazing Malbecs, Torrontés, and complex blends that have made the Mendoza and Salta regions so renowned. On this nine-day tour, taste extraordinary wine and food, visit with world famous winemakers and selected boutique producers, and immerse yourself in a golden wine country.

Mendoza is the quintessential wine-making location, showcasing beautiful vineyards with the backdrop of the majestic Andes. Here, we visit the iconic wineries of Mendel, Bodega Piattelli, and Hacienda Colomé as well as smaller ‘garage’ producers. While Malbec is the standout varietal, other grapes are gaining esteem and blends are becoming works of art. In and around Salta the star is Torrontés, a grape type that has developed a cult-like following. Discover how high altitude translates into wines of great expression and diversity. Salta’s desert-like scenery, interesting Spanish colonial towns, and more jaw-dropping views of the Andes make this a particularly appealing area to discover.

Barb Wild is a Canadian Wine Scholar and Certified Specialist of Wine with a WSET Diploma. She has taught a wine course at UBC and received an Award of Excellence in Sustainability Management. She has travelled to many fascinating wine regions in France, Hungary, Australia, Spain, Italy, USA, Eastern Canada, and Argentina. Barb currently hosts the "BC Wine Tasting Challenge," which is a series of blind tastings where BC challenges France's finest.
