We’ve designed this tour to provide the essential experience of the most interesting central and southern Brazilian habitats. We start with a jaunt in the savanna-like cerrado and montane habitats at Caraça, a heavenly setting where we have the best chance in Brazil of seeing a Maned Wolf, South America’s signature canine.

At the heart of our tour is the Pantanal, the world’s largest freshwater wetland complex. Here, we find what may be the greatest concentration of conspicuous wildlife on the continent. We get to visit both the North and South Pantanal. Each day, we take drives and boat rides with the hope of seeing some of Brazil’s “Big Five” mammals, including Giant Otters, Giant Anteaters, and Jaguars, which we’ve seen and photographed regularly on recent trips! There’s also a wealth of bird life, including emblematic Hyacinth Macaws and Greater Rheas, South America’s counterpart to Africa’s Ostriches.

We end in the Atlantic Forest at the fantastic Itatiaia National Park near Rio. Here, we explore luxuriant ecosystems, ever on the lookout for monkeys and the over 350 bird species that live amidst elegant tree ferns and orchids.
