After the temples of Upper Egypt and the great sites of Luxor, the journey shifts again, out into Egypt’s otherworldly western deserts, where black volcanic hills, chalk white formations, and oasis life reveal a completely different side of the country.

A timely 2026 update, the Grand Egyptian Museum near Giza is now open to the public, making it easy to pair the Pyramids with one of the most significant museum visits in the world.
