Portuguese Coastal Camino II

This tour is presented by the alumni associations of the University of British Columbia, the University of Alberta, the University of Saskatchewan, Western University, McMaster University, York University, the University of Guelph, and McGill University. All are welcome!

Walk the Camino Português Coastal Route, the less travelled, quieter, Camino.

Your 200-km walk starts in the colourful UNESCO-listed city of Porto and follows a beautiful landscape of wild Atlantic coastline, walking through seaside towns and fishing villages, past river estuaries and sandy beaches before crossing the River Minho into Spain. The path continues through the historic medieval towns and enchanted forests of Galicia to arrive in the wonderful city of Santiago. Each day brings different scenery from rural roads to forest paths, cobbled streets to old Roman routes, vineyards to olive groves, and ancient bridges and churches.

This is a true Camino; you will be walking from one village to the next every day, with your luggage transported to your next accommodation. The route is carefully designed for easy to manage walking days. Our wellness leader and Portugal-based walking guides accompany the walk with our minivan and driver available for support as needed.

Accommodation is in a mix of rural tourism and charming three- and four-star hotels and includes three particularly lovely paradors. Picnic lunches are provided during the walk. Most dinners are included at our hotels with a few independent dinners in larger towns.

Our wellness leader will offer daily warm up and cool down sessions as well as tips and guidelines for establishing a rhythm that feels right for you.

Your Tour Leader

Janet Gates is a Director at Worldwide Quest and a lifelong adventure traveller. Hailing from Parry Sound, Ontario she grew up canoeing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. Her experience as a cross-country ski racer, coach, and official led to her serving as an international cross-country ski official and volunteer, working with event organizing committees around the world.
