Oaxaca is one of Mexico’s most biologically diverse and culturally compelling regions, shaped by its position at the crossroads of multiple life zones and centuriesold Indigenous traditions. Within a relatively compact area, landscapes shift dramatically—from semiarid valleys filled with cacti and agave, to pine–oak and cloud forests cloaking the Sierra Madre del Sur, and finally to tropical dry forest, mangrove lagoons, and the Pacific Ocean itself.

This remarkable ecological variety notably supports extraordinary birdlife. More than 600 bird species have been recorded in Oaxaca, including numerous Mexican endemics and regional specialties. February offers ideal conditions for exploring this diversity, with comfortable temperatures, clear skies, and active birdlife across habitats and elevations.

Our journey begins in Oaxaca City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its colonial architecture, archaeological treasures, vibrant markets, and enduring Zapotec culture. From the arid Oaxaca Valley, we ascend into cool highland forests before descending the Pacific slope through coffeegrowing regions rich in birds and scenic beauty. The tour concludes near Huatulco, where coastal lagoons, tropical dry forest, beaches, and offshore waters provide a striking and rewarding finale.

Throughout the journey, we combine rewarding birding with cultural depth, scenic travel, and relaxed exploration—crafting a richly textured experience that captures the natural and human heritage of southern Mexico.
