El Camino de Costa Rica

Feb 05-14, 2027

10 days | Costa Rica | alumni UBC Travel Club

Experience Costa Rica from the Caribbean Sea up over the continental divide and down to the Pacific Ocean on this once-in-a-lifetime trek.

We have designed this route to attract adventurers looking to experience a memorable walk in this tropical destination, with many ventures off the beaten path and away from popular tourist destinations. Rural community involvement is integral to the experience, and cultural exchanges are a daily occurrence through food, conversation, and the warm welcome at the comfortable lodgings.

The near daily 10–20-kilometre hikes, which range from moderate to challenging, crisscross the mountains through foothills; cloud forest reserves; coffee, sugarcane, and banana plantations; and past private fincas and ranch lands, deep valleys, rushing rivers, and waterfalls. All the while, we pass through various forested and semi-open ecosystems, ever on the lookout for tropical plants like orchids and bromeliads as well as spectacular animals like toucans, parrots, iguanas, sloths, and monkeys.

Accompanying you is seasoned alumni UBC Tour Leader Judy Rogers as well as a Costa Rican host and various local guides. Join us for this riveting journey from coast to coast!
