Brazil is blessed with incredible resources: five thousand miles of coastline; rainforests teeming with amazing flora and fauna; and some of the oldest occupied cities of the Americas, all moving to a distinctive Brazilian rhythm.

This special tour for alumni and friends of Lewis & Clark College highlights the diversity and distinctiveness of the regions across this vast land as we venture across it in clockwise fashion. We start in Rio, former capital of Brazil, presided over by the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer. We then move to the vibrant metropolis of São Paulo, which blends diverse cultures, art, and cuisine. Known for its dynamic energy, towering skyscrapers, and rich history, it offers a unique mix of modernity and tradition. Next, we venture into the vast Amazon region, whose eponymous “River Sea” is of simply perplexing dimensions and whose rainforest boasts an extraordinary variety of wildlife. Last, we discover the history and amazing landscapes of Maranhão’s coastline, including the great dunes and secluded lagoons at Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. All along our journey, we see vignettes of daily life and get to know and understand what makes Brazil tick.

We invite alumni and friends of Lewis & Clark to discover Brazil with us!
