Borneo is one of the most exciting destinations on earth for the nature lover. On this tour focusing on Borneo’s northern province of Sabah, we’ll be confronted with the combined spectacle of biodiversity and evolution perhaps unparalleled in the world! Our journey takes us into a spectrum of fantastic habitats from lowland rainforest near sea level to oak forests below the imposing summit of Mount Kinabalu. Along with fantastic giant pitcher plans of the genus Nepenthes, rhododendrons and abundance of butterflies is a stunning array of often rather striking birds, including hornbills, broadbills, barbets, woodpeckers, kingfishers and more. The huge and bizarre Rafflesia – the world’s largest flowers – may also be found here. Borneo’s fauna notably includes several species that “fly” (glide, really) across forest canopy gaps including the Flying Lizard, Colugo (Flying Lemur) and the flying frogs…that we’ll look to see in action!

There are numerous primates including macaques and langurs, the endemic Proboscis Monkey, the Bornean Gibbon and the ‘forest people’: the Bornean Orangutan. Our outstanding experience will include stays in secluded rainforest lodges and travel by boat through virgin mangrove stands.

Join us in 2026 as we return to discover Borneo’s primeval habitats once more! After our wonderful adventures in Borneo’s wild habitats, we invite our travellers to experience the heights of relaxation by enjoying our optional 3-night extension to Gaya Island.

Your Tour Leader

Mike Kent is an excellent all-round naturalist and educator based in southwestern Ontario. He has worked as a Park Naturalist at Ontario’s Killbear Provincial Park and the famous Algonquin Provincial Park, and as a Tour Manager at the Monteverde Butterfly Gardens in Costa Rica’s highland cloud forests. He has a keen and abiding interest in all life forms with a particular fondness for insects, fungi and other under-appreciated groups.
