Sylvia Chrobak
Sylvia Chrobak has spent over 20 years in the postsecondary sector in Alberta joining the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies at the University of Alberta in the spring of 2003. Her leadership role as Executive Manager of the institute has her oversee the implementation of all Wirth Institute programs including the operationalizing of its scholarly and academic activities. She also manages the institute’s public outreach and education portfolio. She is a proud UAlberta Arts alumna (Political Science/International Relations) with a special research interest in Central European politics, policy and minority rights. A devoted fan of everything related to Central Europe, Sylvia has travelled widely across Central Europe and coordinated programs and sightseeing tours all over the region in the past two decades. A poet and short story writer, Sylvia finds much of the inspiration for her writing hidden in the stories of everyday people and those in-between spaces rarely highlighted in tourist brochures. When given the chance she will almost certainly talk your ear off about this part of the world and cannot wait to have you fall in love with Croatia!
