Every autumn, a large number of Polar Bears gather on the shores of Hudson Bay waiting for the ice to form, impatiently milling about like passengers stranded at an airport. A large concentration of bears can be found in the Cape Churchill area during this time. As they congregate, it is possible for us to get safely within a few metres of these mammoth white creatures. We have reserved a Tundra Buggy® for two full days on this Polar Bear tour, so we can observe and photograph these great bears in safety and comfort as they interact with one another.

We will be lodging at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre where we will meet with scientists working on a wide variety of projects. Our leader, Polar Bear expert Dr. Marty Obbard, adds a fantastic value to this tour as you receive first-hand accounts from his time in the field with these great beasts of the north and play-by-play interpretation of their behaviours!

Your Tour Leader

Martyn Obbard is an emeritus research scientist and the former resident bear biologist with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, and adjunct professor at Trent University (Peterborough, Ontario). His field work focused on Polar Bears and Black Bears, and he has published many papers detailing the demographics, genetics, and movements of these species.
