In the dense metropolis of modern Cairo, it’s often hard to appreciate the wonders of the ancients. On this exceptional exploration, we whisk you beyond the whirl of people in Africa’s largest city to uncover its fabled history. We get to explore Cairo’s grand 19th-century boulevards, ancient mosques, Coptic churches, and 10th-century palaces. Stroll in the medieval walled city of the Mamluks and dive into the famous Khan El Khalili souk. We have arranged for everyone to ride camels in the shadow of the pyramids and marvel at the Great Sphinx of Giza. 

From Cairo, it’s a short flight to Luxor, where we start our luxurious and unhurried exploration of the Nile. From the comfort of the Sonesta Moon Goddess, on our four-day cruise, we sail past the Colossi of Memnon and the Valley of the Kings on our way to Aswan. Sipping a drink on the deck of our vessel, watch the landscape change from lush green to desert-like beige. Numerous highlights include Kom Ombo, a paean to symmetry and the most breathtaking ruin on the Nile; the black granite modernist Temple of Hatshepsut; the impressive alley of illuminated sphinxes leading to the main entrance of Luxor; and the grand archaeological sites in the Valley of the Kings and Queens. Finally, before flying back to Cairo, we travel to Abu Simbel to see the famous temples of Ramesses II.
