Private Journeys to Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands

From the Andes to the Enchanted Islands

Home > Private Journey > Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands
Ecuador is one of those rare places where everything feels close yet wonderfully varied. Snow capped volcanoes rise above cloud forests, historic cities hum with vibrancy, and the world famous Galapagos Islands offer a front row seat to nature in its purest form. It is a country that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and let curiosity lead every step.

Begin in Quito, a beautifully preserved capital cradled high in the Andes. Cafés spill onto cobblestone streets, centuries old plazas open onto grand monasteries, and the city’s creative energy blends with deep rooted Indigenous traditions. From here, the country unfolds in every direction. Travel along the Avenue of Volcanoes where emerald valleys and dramatic peaks shape some of the most impressive scenery in South America. Spend time in the Andean highlands meeting local artisans, farmers and weavers who share Ecuador’s story through their craft.

Then comes the moment many travellers dream about – the Galapago Islands. A place so pristine and peaceful it feels like stepping into another world. Giant tortoises lumber across green highlands, sea lions nap on warm black rocks, marine iguanas sun themselves along the shore, and blue footed boobies perform their curious courtship dance only a few steps away. Whether you choose a small expedition yacht or a stay on one of the islands, every day brings close encounters with wildlife that inspired Darwin himself.

Ecuador and the Galapagos offer a journey where land, sea and culture intertwine a reminder of how powerful nature can be and how magical travel feels when it connects you to both place and people.

Good to Know

Ecuador is wonderfully compact, making it easy to combine highland villages, colonial cities, cloud forests and the Galapagos in a single journey without long internal flights. Spanish is the official language and the local currency is the United States Dollar, making day to day transactions simple for many travellers.

Best time to visit

On the mainland, travel is appealing throughout the year, with slightly drier conditions in the highlands from June to September. The Galapagos are a true year round destination. From December to May, seas are warmer and generally calmer with more tropical conditions. From June to November, cooler nutrient rich currents draw exceptional marine life and bird activity.

What to Eat

Ecuadorian cuisine is fresh, flavourful and deeply rooted in regional traditions. Expect excellent seafood along the coast, hearty Andean dishes such as quinoa soups and grilled corn, vibrant tropical fruits and some of the finest small batch chocolate in the world.
