“An important meeting point” – thus we could describe the narrow isthmus that
bears the name of this understated but interesting nation. Any visit starts at
Panama City and it would be a challenge to ignore that nearby and imposing feat
of engineering: the Panama Canal. The large ships passing through are impressive
but this is just the start of the discovery here, the isthmus also representing
one of the most biodiverse areas of the planet as it is literally the place
where north meets south. Away from the centre we can find a quiet countryside
with beautiful sandy beaches and high misty cloud forest, pastoral farmland and
dense jungle. Whether you wish for a more urbane experience or one that’s a
little more rustic, Panama accommodates.
