Tucked between South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia, the democratic and stable republic of Botswana boasts some of Africa’s last great wilderness, including the Kalahari Desert and the Okavango Swamps. Beyond the populated eastern corridor, Botswana is largely savannas, deserts, wetlands and salt pans.
You will begin your Botswana exploration with the abundant wildlife of the Chobe region, known for its large populations of African elephants. From Chobe, you fly to the Okavango Delta, home to a wealth of wildlife, including elephant, buffalo, hippopotamus, giraffe, wildebeest, topi, lion, cheetah, leopard, zebra and hyena, among many others. You stay in two different camps in the Delta, taking game drives by jeep and by boat.
Prior to embarking on your adventure in Botswana, You will arrive at the stunning Victoria Falls. These falls, created by the Zambezi River’s plunge into a series of basalt gorges, form the largest sheet of falling water on Earth. The incandescent mist raised by the tumbling river can be seen more than twenty kilometers away. You will explore the region of the falls with a walking tour and a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River.
From Victoria Falls to the eclectic town of Maun, this itinerary provides a tantalizing taste of this unique part of the world.
