Get your feet on the ground in dreamy Kolkata, then set off with your host to journey through the villages and rural settings of Odisha (also known as Orissa) to experience the rich mix of cultures and traditions of indigenous communities.
 
In Kolkata discover a city that since the flowering of Bengali culture in the mid-19thC, has continued to be a cultural and political hub in India. Once the headquarters of British rule in India, the city faded slowly until recent efforts at urban regeneration have stimulated citizens to engage with the buildings and their history, creating a fascinating and vibrant city. Kolkata is also one of the friendliest cities in India; you’ll find people ready to chat over chai and the city buzzes with creativity.

Set off south along the coast of the Bay of Bengal into Odisha to delve into its archaeological wonders; see the massive cosmic chariot of the sun god at Konark and visit the magnificent medieval stone temples hidden in Bhubaneswar. Stroll the long sandy beaches of Puri and Gopalpur and enjoy distinctive Odia cuisine. Odisha is home to 62 culturally vibrant community groups; delve deeper into the Adivasi culture with visits to villages and markets hosted by community members.
