Classical Greece with alumni UBC

Apr 21 - May 04, 2020

14 days | Greece | alumni UBC Travel Club

Study leader Peter Prontzos recently hosted a webinar about this tour! Click here to watch (16 min).

My passion for Greece started early in life, at our large family gatherings and when my parents sent me to Greek school. I was especially fascinated by Greek mythology, and at one point I drew up an almost complete genealogy of the gods and their children (such as Athena and Achilles).

After my first visits, I realized that I like travelling with a small group, as it allows you to share amazing experiences (the sights, the discoveries, the food, and so on) with like-minded people, while also providing opportunities for other group activities. It also takes the stress out of getting around. Staying overnight in Delphi and the beautiful town of Nauplion offers the leisure to take in these magnificent sites long after the day trippers have departed.

In addition to the local people that we meet, our itinerary allows us to see many of the natural wonders of Greece, such as the mountains of Delphi (and the world’s largest olive grove that stretches to the sea!)

We will see the sights that everybody wants to visit in Greece, as well as many examples of contemporary Greek life. In addition to the historic sites, this tour will reveal elements of modern Greek life and culture. My personal connection to Greece, especially to my father’s village, Kyparissi, offers access that most travellers don’t have; we’ll enjoy dining family-style at local restaurants while staying at my cousin Sofia’s beach-front hotel and exploring the beautiful countryside.
