We’ve designed this tour to provide the essential experience of the most interesting central and southern Brazilian habitats. We start with a jaunt in the savanna-like cerrado and montane habitats at Caraça, a heavenly setting where we have the best chance in Brazil of seeing the Maned Wolf, South America’s signature canine.

At the heart of our tour will be the Pantanal, the world’s largest freshwater wetland complex. Here we’ll find what may be the greatest concentration of conspicuous wildlife on the continent. We’ll visit both the northern and southern Pantanal. Each day we’ll take drives and boat rides with the hope of seeing more of Brazil’s “Big Five” mammals including the Giant Otter, Giant Anteater, and – although a sighting can’t be guaranteed – Jaguar, which we’ve seen and photographed regularly on recent trips and we think we have an excellent chance of observing again! We’ll also be able to appreciate a wealth of bird life include the emblematic Hyacinth Macaw and the Greater Rhea, South America’s answer to Africa’s ostrich.

We’ll end in the Atlantic Forest at the fantastic Itatiaia National Park near Rio. Here we’ll explore luxuriant habitats and be on the lookout for monkeys and the over 350 bird species amidst wonderful tree ferns and orchids.

To augment the experiences on this tour, we are offering a post-trip extension to the fabulous Iguazu Falls where more great discoveries await.
