I’m thrilled to announce that Quest Nature tours we will be a part of the Vancouver International Bird Festival (VIBF) and the International Ornithological Congress (IOC) this coming August! We are sponsoring this event that brings together people from many walks of life and who share a common concern for bird appreciation and conservation.
The VIBF is a ramped-up version of Vancouver Bird Week, which usually takes place over a week each May and celebrates birds and their importance through a variety of events. This year, the VIBF coincides with the IOC, which takes place every four years in a different international city and brings together the best minds in bird-related scientific research. As a result of these combined forces, this event is touted to be the largest global bird-related event!
Yours truly and Chris Earley (Quest leader and author) will be working at the event. From August 23 – 25, we’ll be based at the Bird Expo headquarters in the Vancouver Convention Centre’s West Wing (entrance fee TBD) where we’ll meet event participants and give a number of special presentations, including the following:
Bird Life along the River Gambia, a Great African River, with Justin Peter
Thursday, August 23, 2018, 1:00 – 1:30 PM
Justin will share some features that make this region a fantastic introduction to African bird life.
The Bird Teacher: How Birds are Nature's Ambassadors, with Chris Earley
Thursday, August 23, 2018, 5:00 PM – 5:45 PM
Join Chris for this feature presentation as he explores our love of birds and how they can be used as a starting point in connecting people with the natural world. If you are an educator, birder, parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, big brother or big sister, this talk is for you!
The Galapagos: A Place for Special Encounters, with Chris Earley
Friday, August 24, 2018, 1:30 – 2:00 PM
Chris shares some unexpected encounters in the Galapagos and what makes this place so special.
Scenes of Indian Bird Life, with Justin Peter
Saturday, August 25, 2018, 2:00 – 2:30 PM
Justin shares stories of his encounters with birds in India along with photos of some of India’s dazzling (and considerable) bird life.
On those same days, we’ll be at the Quest Nature Tours display (booth #208) where you can come to meet us, discuss your travel goals as well as fill out a ballot for the chance to win a Galapagos trip for two!
On one of those days, Chris and I will also lead a morning bird stroll at Stanley Park. If you would like details on this walk, please e-mail me. We will, of course, post the final event schedule once available on our Community News & Events page!
