Trinidad & Tobago: A Tropical Birding Hotspot

Jan 21-30, 2021

10 days | Trinidad & Tobago | Birding

Our travellers always enjoy the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. In fact, those who go as self-described "non-birders" usually return as converts...and it's easy to understand why. With a strong South American influence, the bird life here is astonishingly varied yet quite visible, making for an excellent and relaxed introduction to birds of the New World Tropics. We could observe over 200 bird species during this trip!

The world-renowned Asa Wright Nature Centre is our base on Trinidad. It is alive with birds and, if you are a first-time visitor to this part of the world, you might see 20-30 new birds before breakfast! We will make day-trips from the Centre to see the famous Scarlet Ibis arrive at their evening roost at Caroni Swamp and travel from the lowlands to the mountains on the lookout for Ruby-topaz Hummingbird and Moriche Oriole. We will also seek out the cryptic, nocturnal Oilbird. We will then fly to Tobago to enjoy good swimming and snorkelling in the warm Caribbean waters and take a boat trip to the seabird island of Little Tobago where we’ll watch elegant Red-billed Tropicbirds fly along the cliff faces and Brown Boobies skim the water below. The pace of this trip will be relaxed, as we will use but two accommodations during our entire time.

If you're looking for a special treat, join us on our next tour to these sunny and warm islands!
