Paris Spring: Eclectic Art

May 05-12, 2024

8 days | France | alumni UBC Travel Club

A relaxing week exploring an eclectic collection of art museums, neighbourhood walks, and fine dining from the base of our centrally located four-star hotel.

Several mornings will begin with presentations on the art of the day with Justin Newell. We’ll delve into a choice selection of smaller museums. The Musée Jacquemart-André is a magnificent 19th century residence housing one of the finest private collections of art works from the Italian Renaissance, works by Flemish masters, and 18th century French works. The Petit Palais, designed in glamorous Beaux Arts style, features sumptuous interiors and a marvelous collection of 19th century French paintings. We’ll see the works of Eugène Delacroix at the little gem of a museum housed in the artist’s final apartment and studio and view Picasso’s masterpieces from his personal collection exhibited at the Musée National Picasso-Paris. Special exhibitions may be included as soon as schedules are available. There is ample free time to include your own visit to the Louvre or to the Centre Pompidou.

Between visits, our resident Paris guide, Lisa Pasold, host of the Discovery Channel’s Paris: Next Stop (2007 – 2013) will lead neighbourhood walks designed to introduce the charming arrondissements of the various museums.

Our base for the week is a lovely four-star hotel between St. Germain des Pres and Montparnasse, close to the Luxembourg Gardens and two metro stations. Meals in favourite neighbourhood bistros and brasseries. Enjoy an inspiring week of eclectic art in Paris in the spring!
