Myanmar: Your Way

Remote and mysterious, Burma has inspired great literature from Kipling to Maugham. Its own history is, of course, much more remote and even more magical. Our visit offers a glimpse into a rich Buddhist tradition, an ancient culture and a stunning natural beauty that we think speaks to the quintessential south Asian experience. The country’s fascinating scenery includes world-class archaeological sites, vast teakwood forests, mighty rivers, Himalayan Mountains, precious gemstone mines and historic architecture. You’ll begin in Yangon, exotic and striking with its mix of British colonial architecture, Buddhist stupas, Hindu temples, Christian churches and Muslim mosques, all shaded by large, leafy trees. Then “on the road to Mandalay,” but by air for you, to visit the magnificent monasteries of the city and to Amarapura, the city of immortality. Then you board the delightful Paukan for a cruise to Bagan’s incredible Plain of Temples, more like a sea of more than two thousand temples stretching into the horizon. Your trip ends at Inle Lake, a magical spot out of time with pagodas, floating gardens and the genuine hospitality of the hill tribe people. In case you’re wondering, we’ve travelled to Burma frequently over the last 10 years and discussed current affairs with our friends and colleagues there. They’ve told us, and we remain convinced, that tourism is a positive force for the Burmese people.
