Celebrate Nikon’s 100th Anniversary in Alberta

Enjoy exclusive access to Nikon ambassador photographers for a full 7 days of presentations and on-site learning! Plus the chance to try out new Nikon equipment!

2017 is Nikon’s 100th Anniversary and Canada’s sesquicentennial. Join us in celebrating both of these historic occasions as we explore the stunning vistas and magnificent wildlife of southern Alberta, all while receiving expert, personalized tutelage from two of Nikon's very own experts! In addition to making effective use of our own photographic equipment, we will have a special opportunity during this tour to try out a selection of various other cameras and lenses courtesy Nikon Canada!

The “wide open spaces” for which Canada is so renowned take many forms in Alberta’s south. The combination of variations in altitude and topography borne from various geological processes has created an interminable variety of form and colour, as well as a plethora of unique habitats that house impressive wild animals. Our photographic tour in this region will give us an opportunity to study and capture the myriads of landforms and life forms found here.

We’ll start by exploring the country east of Calgary. Here, the prairies are punctuated by badlands – heavily eroded landscapes with an intriguing mix of form and colour, providing endless photographic subjects. We’ll constantly be on the lookout for the resident wildlife, including Mountain Bluebird, Swainson’s Hawk, Pronghorn and the Richardson’s Ground Squirrel. It’s then westward across the prairies where we’ll gradually ascend the foothills of the Rockies, starting at the Bow Valley. At this higher elevation we’ll watch for the unique and precious interplay among water, mountains and sky, with an emphasis on morning and evening. Most of our work will be done at the lower elevations looking upwards at the mountains, but we will also ascend above the tree-line into alpine meadow habitat. The attendant wildlife should provide practice with capturing scenic and portrait shots. In the Kananaskis, we’ll search for the hay-hoarding Pika, which inhabits crags among boulders. Some of the birds we’ll look for include Golden Eagle, Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch and the fearless Clark’s Nutcracker. We’ll also work hard to get excellent captures of Alberta’s big mammals, including Elk and the emblematic Bighorn Sheep.
