ACTIVE VOYAGING AND WELLNESS
Imagine returning to the ship after an adventurous hike ashore or perhaps an exhilarating paddle and after a quick change and a hot drink, you make your way to our on board spa for your pre-booked massage. Wow! You wouldn’t be the first Arctic adventurer to imagine such a thing but you may be one of the lucky few to experience it. This is all part of the Active Cruising and Wellness program on board the Akademik Ioffe.
During your expedition, you will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities from hikes and kayak excursions. We encourage you to customize the activity level of your vacation and couple this choice of activities with a range of menu items at each meal. Our chefs offer a light ‘Active Cruiser’s’ choice at each lunch and dinner. By being selective about the menu and by choosing active excursions, you may be able to reduce that dreaded feeling that ‘being on vacation’ means falling off the fitness bandwagon.
In addition to significant choice in off-ship activities, we have a personal fitness trainer and a massage therapist as part of our team on every voyage. Whether you are interested in a vigorous morning exercise workout, something gentle to get the blood flowing, or even a stretching session, our trainer will offer daily activities to help keep you fit. Teaching you about nutrition and how to feed an active lifestyle will be the joint role of our head chef and our fitness trainer. This will be incorporated into our educational program. Our massage therapist will offer a range of spa treatments onboard the vessel including Swedish, deep tissue and sports therapy massage, hot stone massage, and various types of hydrotherapy.
Our goal in offering the Active Cruising and Wellness program is to enhance your overall experience onboard our vessel. This means that with the opportunities that we provide to control your diet and enhance your fitness activities, you will recover more quickly from the travel to the ship, and be in a better state to enjoy our excursions to the fullest. In addition you may return home with the positive feeling of having maintained your pre-voyage fitness rather than having taken a hiatus from your exercising and feeling the need to ‘crack the whip’ and get back to where you were before your vacation.
A note about our fitness sessions:
Our personal trainers are committed to providing workouts for all levels of fitness. Whether you are training for a marathon or wondering what it would feel like to do your first sit-up in 25 years, our sessions will be inclusive of your needs. If you are interested in one-on-one coaching, our fitness trainers will be happy to oblige and can work around the onboard program of educational presentations and shore excursions.
