Rod Phillips has taught at Carleton since 1989, and gives a popular course on the history of alcohol each year. He has written widely on the history of wine and other alcoholic beverages, and his books include A Short History of Wine (2000), Alcohol: A History (2014), and French Wine: A History (2016). He writes wine features for NUVO Magazine, and he contributes to Vines Magazine (Canada) and The World of Fine Wine (UK). He previously wrote a weekly wine column for the Ottawa Citizen. He also judges in wine competitions in Canada, Europe, and elsewhere, and regularly travels to wine regions around the world.
