It’s my great pleasure to announce that Quest will be at this year’s Festival of Birds!

This event takes place each May at Point Pelee National Park, which is the most southerly point of mainland Canada and rightly considered one of the world’s best locations to watch birds during spring migration. It’s a special year for Festival participants as Parks Canada is availing the complimentary Discovery Pass on the occasion of Canada’s 150th anniversary.

We’ll be on hand once again to enhance your bird watching experience in the following ways:

Guided Bird Hikes: On the weekends of May 6 - 7 and May 13 - 14, you can join our Quest leaders on the Park’s official guided bird hikes. We’ll be leading various morning and afternoon walks. We’ll also lead some of the evening excursions featuring the courtship display of the American Woodcock. All walks are about 2 hours in length over easy terrain, and participation is typically limited to 12 participants. Quest leaders will find and point out birds for you, share tips on bird identification, interpret bird behaviours you may observe together and help give context to the whole migration phenomenon.

Bird Photography Hikes: On the weekend of May 6 - 7, join Quest leader and Nikon Canada Ambassador Tony Beck for special small-group walks during which we'll explore technical and artistic aspects of bird photography in the field. Tony will share tips for approaching birds and for interpreting and forecasting their behaviour so that you are better equipped to get the photo you hoped for!

Lunch-and-Learn Sessions: Quest Nature Tours leaders will be presenting a number of the Park’s “Lunch-and-Learn” presentations at the Visitor Centre. These sessions equip you with identification skills that will enhance your enjoyment of birds in the field.

Sessions presented by Quest include the following:
Birding By Ear (with Justin Peter): Friday, May 5 at 12 noon, and Sunday, May 14, at 12:30 PM
Improving Your Hawk Identification Skills (with Chris Earley): Saturday, May 13 at 11:30 AM
Northbound Shorebirds (Shorebird Identification with Jean Iron): Monday, May 8 at 11:30 PM, and Saturday , May 14 at 12:30 PM
